La Niña TodoMePasa dice:

Mi abuela regresó de Estados Unidos este domingo. Como siempre que va a visitar a mis tíos, regresó con una maleta llena de chocolates, dulces varios, mis tradicionales cremas y perfumes de Victoria’s Secret (pago en oro la onza del aroma Sweet Temptation) y un montón de fotografías.

Hace ya cinco años que mis tíos Teresa Montaño y Miguel Montalvo se fueron a vivir a Glendale, California, en busca de una vida mejor. Mi primo Omar se quedó en México ya que estaba estudiando para Chef en el Club de Industriales.
Iram renunció a la Universidad Autónoma Chapingo y Yared también dejó la escuela para irse a la aventura con sus papás… Y no les ha ido nada, pero nada mal. La última vez que fuimos, Iram estaba estrenando una mega camioneta.

Y en esta ocasión, Yared me envió el periódico Explosion, de Glendale High School, y el boletín de los Senior Awards Night…

¡Mi primo Yared fue uno de los mejores quince atletas de su generación!!!

No sólo fue capitán del equipo de Volleyball y vicepresidente del Habitat for Humanity Club (que ayuda a construir hogares para familias necesitadas), sino que se graduó con los siguientes reconocimientos:

*Golden State Seal Merit Diploma
To be eligible for the Golden State Diploma, students must have earned a scaled score of 370 or above on six qualifying California Standards Tests (CSTs): Grade 11 History-Social Science (required), English-language arts (one required), Mathematics (one required), Science (one required), and two additional tests within the mentioned areas.

*Adelante Latino Award
Honoring Latino High School Seniors on the Glendale Unified School District who have achieved cumulative G.P.A.’s of 3.0 or higher.

*Certificate of Bilingual Competency
To earn the certificate of Bilingual competency, a student must successfully complete all high school graduation requirements for English and one of the following:
-Pass the District’s Comprehensive Language Exam
-Receive a score of 3 or better on the AP (Advanced Placement) exam for foreign language
-Complete a four-year course of study in the same foreign language

*Community Service Award
Awarded to seniors who have logged 100 or above hours of community service since our program began two years ago. These students are recognized for receiving certificates & medallions.

*Paul Boutin Memorial Award
The Paul Boutin Memorial award is presented on an annual basis to the Glendale High School boy’s varsity volleyball player who best embodies the characteristics and values shown by Paul Boutin, Class of 1985. Paul Boutin was an outstanding individual. He was a highly motivated player who always worked hard to become the best possible player he could be. Perhaps his most important contribution was the unselfishness and caring he showed toward his teammates. His willingness to support and encourage others was instrumental in the success of his team and the continued growth of the Glendale High School volleyball program.

Así que mi primo salió en el periódico y se graduó con honores de High School… Y ahora escribe su nombre como Yared Montalvo-Montano, con un guión en medio para no perder el apellido materno… aunque se quedó sin “eñe” =)
